River Crossing Church Installation, Jackson, Wyoming
Over the last decade River Crossing Church of Jackson Hole Wyoming has gone through various stages of sound system installations.
Capsicum Pro Audio was asked to tackle a number of technical issues, and meet the goals of the church worship team and the church’s growth. The main goal of worship leader, Eddie Anders, was to move from a mono sound system to a stereo system, and to provide an even coverage throughout the sanctuary. Eddie also wanted the sound system to be capable of concerts of all types as well as provide speech reinforcement for the Sunday services.
Prior to the installation by Capsicum Pro Audio, River Crossing’s sound system consisted of three 12” JBL speakers spread out on the ceiling of the church, forming a triangle pattern. Capsicum had explored the option of moving the current speakers to a simple left/right configuration, but decided the current speakers could not provide the proper coverage due to the size of the sanctuary. Another issue that River Crossing was facing was a lack of bottom end. Eddie Anders wanted more punch and low end, so the staff at Capsicum Pro Audio decided it would be best to get rid of the current subwoofers.
After much research and consideration of the needs at River Crossing Church, the team at Capsicum Pro Audio decided to install a main sound system consisting of 6x JBL VRX-932LAP, and 2x JBL SRX-728 subwoofers powered by Crown amplifiers. The JBL VRX-932LAP is a system utilizing the latest in line array speaker technology. This technology allows the JBL VRX series to provide an even and smooth signal to every seat in the sanctuary. Providing sonic clarity to every seat was absolutely critical for the installation.
The JBL VRX system was flown in a left/right configuration a few feet in front of the stage edge. The JBL SRX 728s subwoofers were placed directly below the VRX speakers, also in a left/right configuration.
To meet the demands of the growing worship team, Capsicum Pro Audio installed a Soundcraft GB4 32 channel console. The GB4 was chosen because of its routing flexabilty, parametric EQ, matrix outputs, and 8x aux sends used for effects and monitors.
The new River Crossing sound system was then tuned using SMAART frequency analyzation. The system was first time aligned and then EQ’d to provide a consistent frequency coverage throughout the entire sanctuary.
